Mrs.. Clara Talley, 84, of Portales, died Friday morning, June 4, 2004, at the Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Clovis to Maude and Orlando Lang.
She came to Portales in 1929. Nearly all of her life was lived within the state. During World War II she worked as a truck driver at Cannon Air Force Base. She and her husband, Harry R. Talley, farmed north of Clovis for many years. In 1960 she moved to Portales. Clara worked as a caregiver for shut-ins in the area for several years. In 1977 Clara moved to her mother’s home to care for her until her death in 1980. After her mother’s death she continued living there until a few years ago, when her health forced her to move to a nursing home. Clara enjoyed knitting and crocheting as well as other types of crafts and hand work.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Barry Lang; and a sister, Eunice Widmier.
She is survived by one brother, Oren Lang of Clovis; two sisters, Blanch Kent of Portales and Essie Bell of Farmington.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Cemetery in Clovis.
George Smith will officiate at the services.
