Chavez ties for ninth, Reid ties for 16th in AJGA event

ALBUQUERQUE — Clovis High seniors Guillermo Chavez and Travis Reid finished in ties for ninth and 16th place, respectively, in the American Junior Golf Association’s Southwestern Junior tournament at Isleta Eagle Golf Course.

The 54-hole event concluded on Friday, with Jeffrey Edelman of Southlake, Texas, shooting a six-under-par 210 and taking the title on the fourth-hole of a sudden-death playoff against Zen Brown of Arvada, Colo.

Chavez shot a one-under-par 215, finishing with a 71 on Friday, and shared ninth place in the event with five others. Reid, who shot a 73 on Friday, finished in a three-way tie for 16th at 217.

The tournament featured 99 players from 17 states, including 18 native New Mexicans.
