LOGAN — A boating accident at Ute Lake sent an Albuquerque man to the hospital with head and side injuries Sunday afternoon.

New Mexico State Park personnel are investigating the accident.

Rangers said details were still not clear but it appeared the injured man was riding a boat with family members when it was struck from behind by a jet boat driven by other family member.

The man was thrown into the water along with other family members as his boat sank.

Family members kept the Albuquerque man from sinking, rangers said.

He was taken to shore for treatment before being transported to Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari where he is listed in stable condition.

Ute Lake State Park Manager Rodney Paris said the cause of the accident is under investigation and he is unable to release either of the names those involved.
