Mary Aguilar, 92, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
She was born April 19, 1911, in Villanueva to Antonita and Leonar Martinez.
She married Paublin Aguilar in February 1935 and they moved to Portales in 1945.
She worked as a cook for Coats & Coats Truck Stop and later cooked for the Eastern Plains Head Start Program.
She ended her working career as activities coordinator for Los Abuelitos Senior Center, during which time she was named Senior Citizen of the Year.
She was a member of the Roosevelt General Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, the Guadalupanas Church Organization, and a lifetime member of St. Helen Catholic Church.
Family members said she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and served as an example to her family.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donato and Modesto Martinez; two sisters, Natividad Ramirez and Marcelina Gallegos; and her husband, who died in 1988.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie (and husband Robert) Pacheco and Jane Janes, all of Portales, and Erminia Martinez of Nampa, Idaho; a son, Ernest (Kristy) Aguilar of Bethel, Maine; and 14 grandchildren and their spouses.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
The Rev. Tobin Hitt will officiate.
Burial will be in Portales Cemetery
Pallbearers will be Miguel Galley, Stuart Pacheco, Eric Urias, Kurtis Kemp, Joshua Watson, Brandon Bennink, Joel Martinez and Jeremy Gardels.
Honorary pallbearers are all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
