Students in Clovis and throughout the area return to school today after a week of spring break vacation.
Here is what some of them and their parents had to say about time away from school.
Pauline Sena, 17, a junior at House High School: “I didn’t do anything. I just hung out at home and went out on weekends with friends.”
Santana Sena, 19, former Texico High School senior: “I worked over spring break at Border Games in Farwell. I have already graduated from Texico High School and plan to start school at Clovis Community College in August.”
Deanna Banister, Portales mother: “My daughter stayed at home most of the week, because my husband, Lonnie, and I had to work. My son stayed with a friend.”
Melanie White, Clovis mother: “I went to Las Vegas and worked here. My son, Tristan, 8, went to Play Inc. in Clovis during spring break week. He said he can swim better now. Now that my son is back in school, I’ll get back into a more normal routine.”
Ashley Garland, 9, Berry Elementary third-grader: “I played and I helped my mom and dad plant a garden. And I spent the night with my grandma. I’m sorry spring break is over. I had fun over spring break.”
Shanae Speck, 15, Yucca Junior High School freshman: “I hung out with my friends and helped my grandparents move. They live in Portales and moved to another place in Portales…I don’t really want to go back to school. It seems like the vacation went by too fast.”
Scott Kendall, 18, Clovis High School senior: “Really I just stayed around here. We went to Lubbock one of the days to get out of town. We watched movies at home every night, and we painted one of the rooms at my church — the Church of Christ on 21st Street. I’m not really looking forward to going back to school. I liked the break.”
