Texas runoff election takes place today
The runoff election in Texas District 31 between Kel Seliger, R-Amarillo, and Kirk Edwards, R-Odessa, is today.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (CST) The election is to fill the vacant seat of resigning Sen. Teel Bivins, R-Amarillo, who recently was appointed ambassador to Sweden by President Bush.
District 31 covers the top of the Panhandle through Midland-Odessa, Texas, including Parmer and Bailey counties.
Seliger is a former four-term mayor of Amarillo, who also served as commissioner.
Edwards is a professional engineer, who has spent much of his career in the oil and gas business.
New member on commission agenda
The Clovis City Commission and the Curry County Commission will hold their quarterly city/county luncheon at noon today in the North Annex of Clovis-Carver Public Library, 701 N. Main St.
On the county commission’s agenda for its regular meeting at 9 a.m. today in the Curry County Courthouse, 700 N. Main St., is a request by De-tention Center Administrator Don Burdine for a budget increase for housing prisoners.
The appointment of a commission member to replace Commissioner Tim Ashley on the commission’s special events center subcommittee is also on the agenda.
James Whary, manager of Oasis State Park, will address commissioners on proposed fee increases at state parks. The new fees may go into effect May 1.
