Mrs. Jessie Lee Hobbs, 90, of Portales, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, in Midland, Texas.
She was born on May 14, 1913, in Dora, to Robert Lee and Mattie Lou Stinson Yoachum.
She moved to Portales with her family in 1918. She graduated from Portales High School in 1930. She married Chester A. Hobbs on July 2, 1932, in Portales. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Portales Woman’s Club. She served as Past Matron of Portales Chapter No. 26 Order of the Eastern Star and served for several years on the Advisory Board for the local chapter of Rainbow for Girls. After the death of her husband, she moved to Midland to be near her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl and Stinson Yoachum; a sister, Norene Thomas; a son-in-law, Larry Virgin; a son, Ray Hobbs; and her husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Bobby Virgin of Midland; a grandson, Michael Hobbs of Clovis; a granddaughter, Amanda Rodriguez of Farmington; a great-granddaughter, Amanda Rodriguez of Farmington; two sisters, Della Mae Little of Tucson, Ariz. and Lucy Faye Smith of Muleshoe; and several nieces and nephews, including, Patricia Thatcher and Marilyn Gardner, both of Portales and Jessie Robinson of Tucumcari.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
Honorary pallbearers are all longtime friends and her family.
