Roland T. Hillock, 64, of Brevard, N.C., died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004.
Mr. Hillock was born July 17, 1939, in Clovis. In 1957, he graduated from Farwell High School, where he was active in football and track. He received a B.S. degree in geology from Eastern New Mexico University in 1962, and continued his studies and research at Texas Tech University in 1962-1966.
He worked in the Midland, Texas, area for 37 years as an independent licensed geoscientist and consultant.
He was a member of American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Ecological Paleontologists and Mineralogists, Association of Ground-Water Scientists and Engineers, Sigma Gamma Epsilon, Optimists International and the Community of Christ Church.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Lorraine Kay Hillock; his mother, Julia Symcox of Farwell; six brothers and sisters, Judy Murray of Dumas, Texas, Gloria Hutchins of Farwell, Janice Snell of Muleshoe, Steve Hillock of Cedar Springs, Mich., James Symcox of San Antonio, and Susan Franse of Farwell; five children, Sheree Case of Lubbock, Jay Case of Brevard, William Hillock of Midland, Leonard Hillock of Somers Point, N.J., and Lisa Lorenz of Corbin City, N.J.; and six grandchildren, Timothy Shultz, Chelsea Case, Rebekah Claxton, Walker Case, Erika Lorenz and Tracy Lorenz.
The family will receive friends at 6-8 tonight at the Steed Todd Funeral Home.
Paul Crooks of Lubbock and Randy Mullin of Farwell will officiate. Burial will be at the Oklahoma Lane Cemetery.
