Mr. Javier Mendoza, 52, of Rio Rancho, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque.
He was born on Oct. 27, 1951, in San Ignacio, Mexico, to Maria and Jose Guadalupe Mendoza.
He settled in Portales around 1970. He married Sophia Lopez on April 12, 1975. For several years he was employed at the Jimmy Privett Hatchery. In 1980 he moved to Hutchinson, Kan., where he was employed by the railroad. In 1983 hewas employed at Excel Meat Packers in Friona. In 1996 he moved to Albuquerque. Family members said he enjoyed doing landscaping, enjoyed watching sports programs, had a great love for music and family.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Raquel Pena and Lidia M. Duran; a niece, Celia M. Duran; and a nephew, Mario Ruiz.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Arthur Lopez (and wife, Melissa), Felix Lopez (Jennifer) and Christopher Lopez (Annette), all of Clovis and Larry Mendoza and Anthony Mendoza, both of Hutchinson, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; his parents; a brother, Francisco Mendoza of Hutchinson, Kan.; six sisters, Celia Hernandez and Rosa Loya, both of Portales, Elena Mendoza and Elva Sanchez, both of Hutchinson, Kan., Martha Ruiz of Portales and Laura Mendoza of Wichita, Kan.
The Rev. Abel Loya will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Cass, Gus Hernandez, Enrique de la Cruz, Abel Loya, Joel Duran and Gabriel Lopez.
Honorary pallbearers will be Celia Hernandez, Rosa Loya, Elena Mendoza, Elva Sanchez, Martha Ruiz and Laura Mendoza.
