Mr. John “Honest John” Pruitt, 77, of Clovis, a welder, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born on July 2, 1927, in Foreman, Ark., to George and Rose Terrell Pruitt.
He was well known as “Honest John.” He married Dorothy Cassidy on March 14, 1953, in Melrose. He spent 23 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1969. After his retirement he worked for Lockhead in San Antonio, Texas. In 1974 he moved to Clovis where he had “Honest John’s Welding.” He was a member of Sandia Baptist Church, Melrose Masonic Lodge No. 39 and Melrose OES Chapter No. 30. Family members said he loved doing projects around his home, that he was a great guy and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his foster parents, Fred and Ida Burch.
Survivors include his wife; three brothers, Doyle Pruitt (and wife, Mary) of Eunice, Bob Burch (Joyce) of Clovis and Bill Burch (Jan) of Phoenix; a sister, Marge Thornton (Joe) of Phoenix; a half-sister, Della Gardner (Paul) of Oklahoma.
Bill Burch and the Rev. Tom Thornton will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell with Masonic graveside rites by Melrose Masonic Lodge No. 39 and military honors by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Sean Burch, Dave and Brian Woolsey, Victor Lueras, John Ortiz and J.L. Lapp.
