Mary A. Pelzel, 84, of Hays, Kan., died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Hays Medical Center in Hays.
She was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Catherine, Kan., to Fred and Margaret Dinkel Schmidt.
She married Alphonse Pelzel. She worked in housekeeping at a university in Hays. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Eagles Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fidelis, Joe and Alex Schmidt; and a sister, Kate Quint.
Survivors include her husband, Alphonse, of Hays; four sons, Leon of Hays, Dave of Ellsworth, Kan., Steve of Larned, Kan., and Jerry of Salina, Kan.; a daughter, Diana Darnell of Clovis; four brothers, Hilary Schmidt and Marcellus Schmidt, both of Hays, Clarence Schmidt of Montana and John Schmidt of Great Bend, Kan.; four sisters, Tina Likiareopolous of Wichita, Kan., Ann Schmidt of Plainville, Kan., Marge Schmidt of Hays and Jane Jacobs of Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
An Eagles Auxiliary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) today, and a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays.
