Beta Phi members held their first business meeting Sept. 2 under the leadership of new officers; president, Patsy Lorenz, vice president, Gwen Williams, treasurer, Collene Baldwin, corresponding secretary, Carman Richard, recording secretary, Margie Caballero, parliamentarian, June Patrick and educational director, Ms. Richard.
Reports were given by Mary Ann Vinson stating that the chapter will again be selling the pecans, mixed nuts and cashews and $8 cookbooks from Hershey’s, Campbell Soup, Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Jello.
She also reported on the success of the chapter garage/bake sale.
It was reported that support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital continues through purchases made at Albertsons. It was discussed that the chapter will sponsor a Million Mile Marathon for 2003-04 in conjunction with the ESA headquarters challenge where members would sign up community participant walkers who would get pledges from the community for the miles walked.
Vinson said there had been articles and a picture in the Clovis News Journal and an article in the ESA state newsletter, Whispering Winds.
The next business meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 6.
Pilot Club of Clovis
The Pilot Club of Clovis met on Monday for its regular business meeting. Members welcomed Lori Trullinger, Southwest District Governor of Pilot International, who was visiting the club.
After a brief meeting, President Dorothy Baldock turned the meeting over to Trullinger, who spoke on “Why Pilot is the spirit of service,” brain minders, growth and fall council.
Four members will be attending the meeting in Albuquerque on Sept. 27-28. New member Barbara Horry was initiated into the club. Meal-on-wheels will be the last of September.
The annual “Nut Sale” will begin in November with pecans, cashews and mixed nuts. A tea for new members or interested persons is planned from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Clovis-Carver Library. The fall garage sale is scheduled for November.
The next meeting is Sept. 29.
