Mrs. Claudette Goertz Edwards, 66, of North Charleston, S.C., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, in North Charleston.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1936, in Wheatland, Wyo., to Claude and Marjorie Randall Goertz.
She was raised in the Slater and Antelope Pass areas in Wyoming. She attended Wheatland, Wyo., schools and had a great passion for music from Guy Lombardo, John Phillip Sousa to Tschaikovsky. In her teens, she played saxophone in a dance band. She graduated from Wheatland High School in 1955 and married Larry D. Smith.
She moved to Vaughn where she operated a small drive-in restaurant with her mother for many years. She met and married Samuel Edwards in Vaughn. They had one daughter and lived in Clovis where he was employed as an engineer with the railroad. Family members said she enjoyed doing needlework of any kind, puzzle books, and watching baseball and wrestling on TV.
Survivors include her children, Lynnette Alexander (and husband, Bob) of North Pole, Alaska, Rodney Smith (Cherie) of Kingman, Ariz., David Smith (Judy) of Chicago and Loretta Chaples (Gary) of Wylie, Texas, and Teena Hamm (Gary) of North Charleston, S.C.; two step-children, Jack Edwards of Houston and Charlotte Harden of Clovis; a sister, Clairetta Goertz Zeller of Gillette, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other family.
