Mrs. Jan Smith, 64, of Bowie, Texas, formerly of Clovis, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1938, in Grand Prairie, Texas.
She married Barney Joe Smith on May 25, 1985, in Bowie. She worked in the food industry for many years before relocating to Bowie. She and her husband operated the canteen at the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post for nine years until her retirement in 1992. Then, they were caretakers at the Boy Scout Ranch at Bowie for seven years until they retired in 1999. Family members said she was an avid flower lover.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Jimmy Conover (and wife, Teri) of Mineral Wells, Texas; three daughters, Pam Steele (Tim) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Connie Scott (James) and Lena Tucker (Shain), all of Bowie; the father of her children, Jim Conover of Mansfield, Texas; a stepdaughter, Sheryl Smith of Bowie, Texas; seven grandchildren, Shawna Griffin of Mineral Wells, Texas, Natasha Miles of Rhome, Texas, Christopher and Eric Conover, both of Jacksboro, Texas, Thadeus Conover and Colby Steele, both of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Ryan Tucker of Bowie, Texas; two step grandchildren, Joe Rickard and Wylie Webb, both of Bowie, Texas; four great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Summers (Sue) of Red Oak, Texas, and Lance Summers and Joey Summers, both of Dallas; a stepsister, Shelly Baker of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Jamie Reed will officiate the services.
