Mr. Ray Tharp, 95, of Texico, a farmer, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born May 3, 1908, in Oklahoma, to Nathan and Nettie Maddox Tharp.
He was a resident of Texico all his life. He farmed in the Bovina and Texico areas until retiring in 1969, then he did custom grading work for farms and ranches for the next 12 years. He helped pioneer irrigation and cotton stripping in West Texas and eastern New Mexico. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Texico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lewis and Loyd; two sisters, Veda and Jonell; and two great-grandchildren, Brandi Kelley and Jacob Lokey.
He is survived by a son, Nathan Tharp (and wife, Fern) of Texico; four daughters, Mary Ann Snider (and husband, Bud) of Gunnison, Colo., Anita Zachrel of Texico, Connie Elliott (and husband, Phil) of Brennan, Texas, and Judith Parks (and husband, Roger) of Hotchkiss, Colo.; three sisters, Viola Sterling of Farwell, Mary Snow of Houston and Beth Howard (and husband, W.D.) of Texico; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the home of Nathan and Fern Tharp, 224 N. State Line Road, in Texico.
The Rev. Rob Hollis will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
