A.W. Johnson, 73, of Whitesboro, Texas, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 11, 1929, in Petersburg, Texas, to Raymond and Viola Byrd Johnson.
He moved to Clovis in 1962. As a carpenter, he built homes from 1960 until 1964. He opened Johnson Wholesale Lumber in 1999. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Elks Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Family members said he loved fishing, hunting, flying and playing pool.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Horace Johnson; and a sister, Alice Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Flowella Johnson of Whitesboro, Texas; three sons, Jon Johnson of Donna, Texas, and Russell Johnson (and wife, Annette) and Craig Johnson (and wife, Jaqque), all of Clovis; two stepsons, Gary Morris (and wife, Sheryl) of Muleshoe and Mike Morris (and wife, Trena) of Portales; six grandchildren, Justin Johnson of Wylie, Texas, Michelle Johnson of Arkansas and Kyle and Patrick Johnson and Travis and Tyler Carpenter, all of Clovis; five step-grandchildren, Jason, Justin and Cody Morris and Jody Young, all of Muleshoe, and Kyla Toldert of Sudan, Texas; and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Roy Stewart will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Petersburg Cemetery in Petersburg.
Pallbearers will be Justin, Kyle and Patrick Johnson, Tyler and Travis Carpenter and Jason and Justin Morris.
