In Bailey and Parmer counties, Randy Neugebauer, a Lubbock land developer, defeated Mike Conaway, a Midland accountant, in a run-off election Tuesday night for the U.S. 19th Congressional District formerly held by Larry Combest, a Lubbock Republican who retired Saturday.
Statewide, Neugebauer held a 4.8 percent lead over Conaway, with 96.6 percent of the vote in, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.
In Bailey County, Neugebauer defeated Conaway 407 votes to 102 votes. In Parmer County, he defeated Conaway 394 votes to 50 votes. In both counties, 100 percent of the votes were counted at 8:30 p.m., the Secretary of State’s Office said.
Conaway and Neugebauer finished ahead of 17 candidates in a May 3 special election.
Combest has said he is retiring for family reasons.
