Mrs. Joyce Hill, 62, of Portales, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Laurel Plains Nursing Center in Clovis.
She was born on May 21, 1940, in Springer, to Gladys and James E. English.
She grew up in Las Vegas and graduated from Robertson High School in 1958. She worked in the Montgomery Ward store after high school. She married Randle Hill on Nov. 27, 1959, in Las Vegas, N.M. They moved to Portales in 1967. In 1975 she began her career with Portales Schools where she was employed for 27 years before retirement in 2002. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She served on the board of Roosevelt County Credit Union for several years.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, as well as by a brother, James Lee English in 2000 and by a son, Doug Hill in 1974.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Greg Hill (and wife, Debbie) of Portales and Brad Hill (and wife, Emily) of Houston; three grandchildren, Morgan, Jordan and Avery Hill; a brother, John William English of Gainesville, Texas; and a sister, Nancy Jo Williams of Gainesville, Texas.
Philip Fike will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Dalley, James Pettus, Herb Burton, Dan Buzard, Ronny Foster and Don Keniep.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of L. L. Brown and R. M. James Schools and the members of the Square and Round Dance Clubs.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home.
